The Silk Road - follow in the steps of Marco Polo

Friday, September 12, 2014
The Silk Road, the greatest land-based trading highway the world has ever seen, stretched all the way from China, through Central Asia to Europe. Central Asia which became the best known part to the West through Marco Polo’s writings was the heart of the Silk Road.

Two of the main countries traversed by this legendary route are Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Names like Ashgabat, Bukhara, Samarkand and Tashkent evoke intrigue and mystery of this captivating region. With fascinating kales (castles), exquisitely decorated madrassas (Islamic high educational institution), towering minarets, colourful markets, these cities have a rich architectural and cultural heritage.

They are living, breathing centres for traditional art, varied cuisine and folkloric performances.

"Dear Hamit,

Thank you so much for a terrific trip - really enjoyed it very much. And, will recommend Ozturk Tours to all! I think the trip had great variety - from the archaeological to the geological and lots of interesting cultural and artistic matters in between. A really good balance and I also enjoyed the range of accommodation. I think we were also lucky in having a really good and friendly group.

Thanks again and will send photos whenever I get organised.

With very best wishes."
